A Missionary of the Holy Spirit serving in a parish is a shepherd for his congregation in the sense that he cares for the people, protects them, directs them, and feeds them with spiritual food in the Holy Eucharist.
The work of pastoral care has always been essential in our Congregation. Our first community of ministry was a poor parish in Mexico City's outskirts, just a few years after our foundation.
In the Congregation, pastoral care takes many different forms. For example, in addition to the sacramental needs of the parish, we offer spiritual direction and pastoral counseling, Eucharistic Adoration, mission trips, retreats, service opportunities, and other ministries that reflect our pastoral priorities and charism. In the Congregation, there is great interest in enhancing the pastoral work for both the clergy and laypeople of our parishes. There is also great interest in developing the ministry of the laity for leadership and decision-making.
"Parishes are places where we can effectively carry out our mission. To staff them, favorable conditions must exist for the exercise of our mission."
